AVES ® - FOUNDATION FOR WILDLIFE CONSERVATION IN ROMANIA

INTRODUCTION OF THE AVES FOUNDATION The "AVES FOUNDATION" foundation for protection of Birds, Wildlife and Nature was founded in March 1997 in Romania. Our foundation is an independent and Nongovernmental Organization. Our main aim is the protection of birds, but our activity covers the wildlife and nature protecting problems too. Our organization has been existed since 1972, and worked illegal during the dictatorship. It is worth mentioning our activity for bird protecting, preparing and depositing artificial nest boxes, making ornithological study trails and footpaths, wintering-bird feeding, migration researches, monitoring and the publication of protection posters, leaflets, books and other environmental protecting prints.

Since 1998 we started the Carpathian Brown Bear monitoring in Harghita mountains, compared with protection and conservation. Edited by our foundation is published the colorful "TRANSYLVANIAN NIMRÓD" nature protection magazine, which is being made for lovers of nature. We won financial assistance many times on nature- and wildlife protecting competitions. According to our deep field experience and observations, our members could prove first the discovery of 8 species, and the nesting of 5 new bird species in Romania. Founders and two of us are members of the Romanian Rarity Committee. To realize our natural protecting and research programs, we are in contact with many institute: Birdlife - Romania, Hungarian Ornithological Society, Danube Delta Research Institute, Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation, Association of European Records and Rarities Committees, Romanian Bear Association, Regional Environmental Center, naturArt, and Ecos Foundation. Our members published over 200 scientific articles and essays, as well as more than 20.000 photos and protection posters about the wildlife and nature treasures of Romania.
